SAH, Swiss Association for Wood Research, was founded more than fifty years ago with the prime motivation to establish mutual information flows between wood scientists, avoid duplicate activities and to foster coordination in terms of partition or cooperation of research activities. The founders aimed at facilitating personal discussions among researchers and at inspiring mutual support. Internationally an associated research society would be better recognized than activities by individual persons. Periodical reporting and exchange and discussion of new scientific ideas were considered essential for the Swiss Association for Wood Research.
